I recently purchased a “JABSCO Model 37275” and “RARTAN PHII” Marine toilets. The problem is that I can’t seem to find out if I can install the heads about 20’ apart. I know you should keep the holding tank as close as possible, but I would like to use one large tank attached to an Electro Scan Treatment System. Anyone have any ideas if this will work?

It won't work

The Electro Scan has to be no further than about 6' from the toilet, so you can't connect a single ElectroScan to two toilets 20' apart. It also needs to be no further than about 6' from the discharge thru-hull (or tank) so it's unlikely that you'd be able to connect both treatment devices to a single tank either. Why do you think you need a large tank? You'd only have to hold while in "no discharge" waters, and there are only two NDZs on the whole Gulf--the FL Keys and Destin Harbor...the discharge of treated waste is legal everywhere else. And even if the waste has been treated before it goes into a tank, you wouldn't be able to dump the tank inside the "3 mile (6 miles on the west coast of FL) limit"...'cuz treated waste MUST go directly overboard...once it goes into a tank it's no longer considered treated. And WHY did you choose the Jabsco 37275 for a sailboat??? The weight of the toilet and the added power requirements for the remote intake pump don't make it a very practical choice. I really need to know your thinking behind the whole system to be able to tell you how to do it right.

I'm installing it in a 57' steel sailboat. One head in the master cabin and the other in the forward part, between two guest cabins. The main consideration is to keep everything as simple to maintain as I can.

It won't work

The Jabsco 37275 was my wife's demand. She has her mind set on it just because it’s easy to use and looks nice. I gave up trying to push practical solutions on her. Some women just don't/won't understand what is required. With a gross weight of 40,000 to 50,000lbs, the weight of the Jabsco shouldn’t make that much of a difference. Nothing is written in stone at this point. The engine room is next to the master cabin and the second head is within 15'+/- of the engine room. One tank the in the center of the engine room seems to be the simpler way to go, but again not in stone. Reading the plumbing posts on the Lats & Atts board makes me think that putting a holding tank of say 30gal in the engine room should work. The question of the value of the Electro Scan vs running out to dump the untreated tank is also a consideration. As, I am the one building the boat from the ground up, the tank can go just about anywhere. The other link you speek of is not working at this time. Leonard

Send me an email...

It might sound stupid, but how do I send you an email? I can't find an address. Everything stated in my posting reamins the same. The heads are about 20' apart with the engine room between. The engine room is about 15x15x4 +/-.
