DST housing valve fell off

My DST 810 works as advertised. It replaced a DST 800 which was flaky, at best. However, the valve in the housing has fallen off; instead of a cup or so of water coming in when changing the DST and blanking plug, it is more like a quart coming in.

Is it possible to replace the valve without replacing the entire housing? I don't plan to haul the boat again for a couple of years. What a pain to haul her just for this problem.

The good news is the housing which includes the flapper is available as Airmar P617V Housing Kit. I don’t know if the flapper itself can be replaced. I would think either way the boat will have to be out of the water.

I don’t think the flapper can be replaced independent of the housing, at least on the 800, and I presume the 810 is similar. Ours fell off while the boat was a few months old and the dealer was showing me how “easy” it is to replace the transducer with the plug. The dealer replaced the whole housing under warranty that winter. About a year later it failed on me again. We have not replaced it since; I just live with the extra excitement the couple times a year I swap it.

The thing you are calling a "Valve" is nothing more than a rubber like flap. It may still be there but is stuck.

You only pull the DST a few times a year? Gosh, I pull it if I will not be sailing for a week or more. How fouled does it get?

BTW, it may be the flapper is still there. The other day I noticed what I thought was a short, about 1.5 inch, green ribbon near the through hull. Picked it up and found it was corroded metal. The size and shape are the same as a picture of the flapper. I'm guessing this helps start the flapper to close.

I’m far enough north in the bay that there’s no hard fouling. It gets slimy enough to read inaccurately by late summer, but I can reach it with a long brush well enough to clean the slime off.

I’ve checked mine while the boat is out of the water and confirmed it’s definitely gone .
