Now that I am convinced that replacing the leaking Sherwood with an Oberdorfer pump is the wiser choice, I noticed that a "dry" impellor is available on the market. I had to replace the broken and brittle standard impellor on my Sherwood pump last year, which was a mess, because I had to chase pieces back to the heat exchanger.

With that, has anyone replaced the standard impellor with a dry one and can they provide any opinions on their reliability.

Thanks

Enough people have reported having problems with "run dry" impellors that I don't use them.

Bob, only one of our over 600 C34IA skippers has reported any success with the Globe impellers. Also, IIRC, there wasn't a whole lot of support for them on this forum either. I have been using "normal" impellers on our Oberdorfer for 15 years with NO issues. That's what I look for in an impeller, no issues. I've even run it dry once and it remained intact. Buy a bunch from DEPCO and you'll be good for many years.

Never forgot to open my thru hull since I started hanging the key on my strainer. I agree with Ted and Stu.

Thanks guys.................nothing beats the forum feedback. :)

I will pick up a few spares (regular impellors) and stow then away.
