Dropping keel

Wife was using it to sit while scraping the barnacles too. Multi functional!

If it will get your wife to do the dirty work on the boat, it is worth its weight in Gold.

I asked her if she wanted me to price getting the keel sandblasted. She looked sad and said she really looked forward to using the grinder with the wire wheel on the keel so go figure

I used something very similar to that first picture. I built a frame for the keel that sat on the trailer. Then I used some home-built braces and jacks to lift the boat up, then lowered the keel. I had no problem getting it aligned to reattach it.

All in all though it was too much work. If I had it to do over again I'd take it to a boat yard and spend a little money instead of all the monkeying around I did in my backyard.

So as we know our cast iron keels are not “performance” foils. I have started the process of fairing. Here are a few pics using stingy’s template to see the deviation from “prefect”. the bottom 1/3 has a higher aspect the top 1/3 has almost no camber and about 6 in actually fit the curve more or less.
