4200

Thought I would pass this along, We've all lost the remaining part of the tube we don't use once its opened. A friend told me he has the answer to the loss. Put the tube in the freezer after opening it, I tried it and low and behold it works, just take out the tube a few hours before your going to use it. Of course I had some explaining to do once the Admiral discovered the tube in the freezer. *yks ;D

3M 4200 and 4400

3M fast cure 4200 has a tack time 1 to 2 hours and a full cure in 24 hours. I just read the tube and bedded a fitting less then an hour ago. By the way, 4400 is 4 and 48 for the same thing. All the best, Robert Gainer

Swaging

Moody Buccaneer, Yes, hard information is difficult to come by. I was talking to people in the R&D part of Navtec about Dyform wire recently and they told me something I didn’t expect. Navtec pull tested Dyform wire swaged with a rotary hammer machine, M2 Kerney (I have the M1) and a WireTeknik (I have the A-250) hydraulic roller machine. They also tested some wires made using Norseman fittings. Navtec is the importer of Norseman and they didn’t test Staylock or Hymod. A fitting made with 1X19 wire held the full-published strength of the wire. The swage made with dyform only held to 90% of the published strength of the wire, and that’s still more then 1X19 wire. But that means you get the full benefit of reduced stretch but almost no benefit from the greater strength unless you use the wire with a Norseman fitting. And strangely enough Navtec found that wire swaged with a rotary hammer machine did not develop the same strength as either of the roll swagers. I always thought the rotary hammer was the best machine but with actual pull testing by Navtec it was not as good as either the Kerney or the WireTeknik. I was surprised at that. I will let you know if I find anything useful. I know the testing exists and I have seen it but offhand I can’t remember the reference. We rebuilt the upper wing on a UPF Waco Biplane for a friend who is an airframe and powerplant inspector and he showed me the papers some years ago. I will ask him and get a copy. All the best, Robert Gainer
