2 Contest 36s Sag Harbor
I am sorry that I have not thought this completely through to patent application stage. However, I can see problems in the present system which is not perfect.

In the typical harbor of eastern Long Island there are hundreds and hundreds of moored and anchored boats and at best 1 pump out boat to serve them all. Sag Harbor has one gas dock and so it's crazy to get water or fuel at it on a summer day... you have to cue up.

So matching up schedules with the PO boat becomes or could become an issue. If there was another more flexible system it could solve that problem... perhaps.

I am not defending the idea, I am trying to discuss it and the discussion will reveal how the present system works, or its weaknesses.

Peggie...I am reminded of a former presidents, Phil, I did not name him!) repeated bragging about putting 100,000 more cops on the streets. I talked to a police officer in a small town in the NC mountains...he said it sounded great...however the grant only paid for the salary and part of a car. The next year they were stuck with a police officer and a car...THAT THEY DID NOT NEED TO BEGIN WITH! I suspect that was pretty common.
I would love a pumpout on the east part of Lake Hickory, however there is none. Wonder where it goes...

The real solution to your problem: treatment instead of holding

Although most of the harbors on LIS are "no discharge" waters, LIS itself is not...the discharge of treated waste from CG Certified Type I and II MSDs (devices that treat and discharge each flush LEGALLY and with -0- negative environmental impact) is legal. The most popular/affordable Type Is are the ElectroScan and the PuraSan, both made by Raritan...you can read all about 'em, including the complete installation, operation and maintenance manuals, here: Raritan Waste Treatment If there's nothing in the tank when you come in, there's no need for the pumpout boat.

But if you actually like carrying 15-25 gallons of sewage on your boat...you can't schedule a visit from the pumpout boat during the week when traffic is light?

Waste holding tank

My 1975 Ericson 35 needs a holding tank. I have heard of using a bladder vs. a hard plastic tank. Any comments or info on that?
I am located in Long Beach CA and not sure where to get such a bladder. West Marine only has the holding tanks.

Thank you much!

Stinky! It is just a matter of time. Your best bet is to get a Ronco tank for your boat. Find a convenient location that is close to your head. Plumb it up and you will be ready to go for many years to come.

If you decide to use a bladder tank you will be replacing it anytime from soon to very soon.

Ronco is located in So. Cal. (Tustin). You can find a tank and pick it up at their plant which will save a few bucks too.

I've been working on an idea of loading it all on the space shuttle. Then eject it at about 200 miles above the earth, and let it burn up on reentry. And if it didn't all burn up, odds are that it would land in the ocean anyway. Kind of like the airliners emptying their holding tanks while in the air, and supposedly over water. Remember those poor folks in Newfoundland who had the brown iceberg come crashing through the roof of their house, maybe 15 or so years ago? The pilot "thought" he was over the ocean. Oh, well...!

Version of that story that I heard put the plane over Nebraska...and it was a farmer's PORCH roof. The pilot wasn't dumping the tank...a slight leak had frozen and built up under the tail fin (something that isn't all that uncommon according to my friends who fly for Delta)...enough weight coupled with vibration knocked it loose...They thought it was a meteorite till it started to melt.
