OK so I bought a 26' about 3 months ago. I also bought a 36 foot slip on Lake Huron but decided to work over the boat for this summer before launch next year. Just too many things the PO did half a**ed. My question on the drop keel.

Obviously one can only check so much on the trailer but I really don't know how the whole mechanism works exactly. I know the line in the cockpit is to drop it along with the cleat to keep it up but how much and what can I check on the trailer? Can one get to the shackle etc. and change the line to it while on the trailer? I might as well do all I can on that while I am changing out (or fixing) everything else on the boat. Does somebody have pictures or a diagram to explain this? I have searched sites and Googled it but not much is coming up.

You have to jack the boat up maybe 12 to 20 inches to replace the lifting line. It is connected on or near the trailing edge of the board, so you will have to get the boat up as high as the board is wide fore to aft. I ordered the line from D and R Marine. I had a local boat shop lift it up and I helped the shop guy replace the line.

Great thanks. How bout the pin or whatever its called that it rotates from. This would be forward but do those need changing? This is assuming the keel will drop.

I don't it is common to have to do maintenance or replace the pin unless you have a problem.
I agree checking the pendant and shackle is a good idea. Can you take it to a yard where they can lift it off the trailer for half hour or so so you can check the swing and replace the shackle and pendant?
Paying to have it lifted is better then a crushed hand or other injury if something slips when you try to raise it yourself.
