Drone Defense OR .....

So I've been seeing posts about sailors being hassled by drones or noisy anchorage crashers or other undesirables.
Well, here's a potential solution, though you are advised to abide by all laws and regulations :wink3:

"As technologically-impressive radio- and sound-based anti-drone technologies are, there's something rather appealing about catching a quadcopter in a net, like some Information Age lepidopterist. Enter SkyWall100 — a shoulder-mounted cannon that fires a bullet-shaped projectile which itself releases a net when it comes close to the drone. A parachute then returns the drone safely to land for whatever nefarious revenge you deem necessary. Other payloads are available."

Although I feel that some folks have over-reacted to the "drone threat" regarding the proliferation of the quadcopter hobby, I think that this is really cool. I watched the video and was impressed.

I wonder how the shell is "fused" for aerial release at different distances, if it is at all. Also due to its gas-powered propulsion (for legal if not moral reasons I'm sure) it will have limited effective range especially in the vertical plane.

A shotgun by the door loaded and that is what I will do if one of those things come near. A country boy can survive and that is one solution

Dave,
As much fun as that may be, now that the FAA has finally gained jurisdiction over unmanned aircraft the drones have gained the same protection as manned aircraft. Shoot one down and it is now a Federal issue.
That really sucks as I am sure it would be a great stress reliever to drop one of them as it snoops around your back yard.
FYI Silencer Co makes suppressors for shotguns ;-)

I've seen videos of raptors trained to take out drones. It must be so bad that either Wichita or Kansas passed a law specifically saying that it is unlawful to stalk or harass anyone with a drone.
I also saw a news item where a man shot down a drone over his house. Claimed it was harassing his family in the yard. He was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits. Personally, I am on the side of the shooter..

I can't open catalanc's video but I think from the title it is about the birds taking out drones.

I saw one drone advertised that it could survive 6 shots from a a 12 guage at 75 feet with #9 shot. They must have seen a need for an armored drone LOL

They are now using "geo-fencing" to keep drones out of airspace. Maybe some day we will be able to use it to guard our own perimeter. Personally, it's not bad yet. Celebs might be another story.

In WWII the british shoot long wires up in front of low flying German planes. Wonder if there is a air driven fishing casting device. They would be totally legal to cast for fish in city limit. "Sir, I just practice fishing in my back yard"

I am thinking about buying one of those "Drone Jammers" that jam the RC signal. I could go into business and be on call 24/7. "Who ya going to call"?..................;)

I am laughing so hard I spilled my 2nd cup coffee:laugh:.
rone repellent is the anti PWC heat seeking missile
Damn, Ralph, I was trained as a RIO in an A6 Intruder to fire that:yikes: (I won't say what year to give Woodster a revenge chance about my Birthday)

A shotgun by the door loaded
That was the best tip! CDC you need different LOADS for different uses! #6 shot is a good all round shell.
Pump a few slug loads, on nearby intruders of many kinds, including Zombies!!!;)

Do they sell it at Walmart
Shakes my head in disbelief...:pimp:

FCC will not like that.
And your point? I also used electromagnetic jammers on the A6. This sounds like WAR!:kick:

survive 6 shots from a a 12 guage at 75 feet with #9 shot
That is NO Biggie. All my family survived #9 shot when quail hunting at 50 feet!

and another option .
Damn @Kermit needs to train his Osprey to seek and destroy!:)

Still laughing...

For some reason, I think there is a mention of 83 feet or something like that. So if a drone still comes around my house, bang, it is gone and I will deal with whoever after that. this country boy will survive.
It in many ways privacy has been invaded and now with drones, well there comes a time when it comes into my space, well I call it invasion of privacy and enough is enough.

Alright, y'all. Here's my take. If someone flew a drone around my boat I'd pour beers for the entire crew. We'd smile and wave and generally have a good time while having our boat videoed. I can't get anyone to photograph my boat under sail, much less fly a drone over. The only reason I might be tempted to shoot it would be to get the SD card with the video. But I'd much rather get it from the guy who thinks my boat is video-worthy. Yep, I'd just about give my "port tack" to have a good video.

Kermitt, you provide the cold beers, I am partial to Bud Light Lime in the summer, and we will bring our dinghy down so I can take picks of you, fully clothed please, while you sail. Just don't run over the dummy in the dinghy like Cindy tried to do. Head on shots are neat but running over the dighny isn't. She was on a starboard tack so she was the SOB LOL!!!!
