Should the boat need to be towed, the drive shaft should be immobilized or the engines allowed to idle to provide lubrication water for the shaft seals. If a crossover line is fitted on a twin engine boat only one engine need to be idled.

Why not? I could understand that when a powerboat is at speed the prop is spinning very fast and needs good lubrication, but a powerboat being towed is probably going to be about the same speed as a sailboat.

The PSS is below the waterline. It does not require a feed supply, the hose that is attached is to allow air that may have been trapped while in reverse to escape so there is a constant supply of water to cool the mating faces. All the documentation suggests that powerboat installations may likely need a feed water supply. Totally different.
