This is just for interest, not to start a debate of a well debated topic here. There was a tragic sinking along the ICW in NC of a new 35' powerboat in it's way to the Miami Boat Show. Two men aboard drowned. The USCG has determined that it was a broken shaft seal (NOT the PSS brand) that caused the boat to go down. Link is to the most recent story at towndock.net (a great site if you're heading to eastern NC.)As an aside, the boat was new and did not have a fixed VHF installed. They were carrying handhelds. Anyone who's cruised the ICW knows there are many, many miles that are remote. Turns out handhelds don't reach far in those circumstances. I know, this is an isolated incident and the truth is that if it's not one thing that gets you, it's another; sooner or later something is gonna get you; when it's ur time, etc., etc. But thought some of you would be interested.
