I am considering a dripless shaft seal for my sailboat. Just finished reading Practical Sailors report on several, they gave high marks to Lasdrop original, gen II; PYI flow model and Norscot. I am interested in reports on how effective, ???do it your self project?????? and maintenance, if they use water as a lubricant then what about winter layup???

PYI Great, Alex is right

Have had one on my 340 and love it. If you have a misalignment with your drive shaft and are experiencing some knocking against the tube through the hull, the dripless may increase that as the normal packing material cushions such contact. That is the only additional comment that I would provide.

PYI/PSS

If you need 1 more positive on the PYI, I installed one last spring and had a dry, dry, dry area all summer under the engine. p.s. I wrote some detailed instructions for a 28.5 install,(can't imagine much difference for other hunters) for someone. I'd be glad to e-mail you.

Bought PYI

3 years ago for my H34 at a boat show with a boat show discount. Although more expensive than a repack, I figure it took only slightly longer to install, & I'll never have to repack, adjust a stuffing box, & I have a dry bilge. Just dont forget to burp it in the spring to let the water in, & do the same after haul out to let the water out. (burping takes 2 seconds with no tools) BOL PJ
