I am considering the PSS Dripless Shaft Seal sold here at the chandlery for my '84 Cat 30. Has anyone here done the conversion on a Cat 30 or had experience with the PSS Shaft Seal?

I have one. Installed by the yard. It is great! Bilge dry except for rainwater.

I installed such a seal on my 27 about 6 years ago and it is far and away the best piece of equipment I have added DRACO #2301

PSS Shaft Seal

I had a PSS Shaft Seal installed on my Catalina 28 two years ago. It is terrific!! I wished I had done it years before. Absolutely no problems with it at all. Last summer I had the flexible shaft coupling added as well. This was recommended to me as well. The two seem to complement each other. Although I didn't install it myself I have been told it is pretty easy to do. Considering the low dollar cost for both items it was well worth it. Both items are beautifully made. It's great seeing no water dripping in and no water in the bilge!
