Our "dripless" packing gland seems to let in a fair amount of water... but not always. We got over a gallon when we first started motoring, and then nothing. Then yesterday, motoring over to the pump out station, we got over a gallon again ... This was the day after we'd motored a good 13 miles. Does anyone have an idea what we should do? Is there maintenance we need to do to tighten it? v

Where does it leak?

My dripless does not let any water in whatsoever unless i pull back the tube and "burb" out the air upon launch. Can you be more descriptive on where it is leaking and when? Only under power does it leak? sounds like something is not right. Rob

More info..

More information such as; 1) Brand of dripless seal eg: PSS, Las-Drop or is it a drip-less type of packing for a traditional stuffing box. 2) Engine alignment is it good or are there any vibrations. 3) Did you just launch? 4) If it's a PSS or Las-Drop are the bellows compressed? 5) What type of boat is this installed on? 5) If it's a PSS is it "plumbed in" or is it just the seal? 6) Were you motor sailing? 7) How are your motor mounts and have they been inspected lately? Thorough information on your particular situation or photos will help others properly diagnose your issue.. Think about someone asking the following question then loosely apply it to yours. "Hi guys I'm wondering if my Honda can tow my boat?"

Response to drippless packing gland

1) Brand of dripless seal eg: PSS, Las-Drop or is it a drip-less type of packing for a traditional stuffing box. I think it's a Las-Drop, although I don't know for sure. 2) Engine alignment is it good or are there any vibrations. Engine alignment seems to be fine. There are no vibrations. 3) Did you just launch? We had the bottom done about two months ago, 4) If it's a PSS or Las-Drop are the bellows compressed? One of our friends suggested that it perhaps needed to be "burped", although he didn't know how to do that. 5) What type of boat is this installed on? She's a Morgan 38 CC 5) If it's a PSS is it "plumbed in" or is it just the seal? ???? 6) Were you motor sailing? Recently yes ... we were motor sailing for about 12 hours. 7) How are your motor mounts and have they been inspected lately? Yes. Thanks so much for responding!! Best,
