The Lousianna Purchase H34

It the tap water (especially at marinas and fuel docks) safe to drink?

Yes and No

Most marinas in devloped countries it is ok with the exception of where you live. :>) It is a good idea to ask first. Most of the Bahamas is ok. You can run into trouble in Latin America. Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

Water....

There is no good answer to your question. A lot depends on where you are and how the plumbing is cared for. I personally would not drink any water from a marina dock hose without first letting it run for 10 minutes or more and then treating it with Clorox per the link below. The same holds true for the water in your boat: play it safe and put some Clorox in it as it's hard to keep all the nasty cruddy stuff from forming in your tank or water hoses. To me, it's much easier and safer just to bring along jugs of bottled water whenever we cruise....

Not at the fuel dock.

Most fuel/pump out docks have water available, but the problem is that most people use the hose to rinse out their holding tanks after pumping. The hose becomes contaminated rather quickly. You have to be very careful.

I only shower & do dishes...

...with dock water. I use bottled water for drinking and coffee.
