I have done the classic one of shooting a snake as he coiled in the bottom of the aluminum fishing boat.. He was not happy having recently fallen there from an overhanging cypress. A 22 caliber willow stick stopped the leak .. a bolt and washer and some 5200 was applied later.
Karma will level all playing fields, but rarely so quickly. Lol

Don't be embarrassed.

Been there did that before. Oh..the stories to tell...How big is the hole? Up 1/4" should be no problem anything bigger gets a little dicier. Just plug it with a wood dowel. If you can soak wood dowel in some glycol first. (i.e. radiator fluid.) The glycol should buy you a little time and keep the wood from soaking up any water. Then carefully Shave off excess. Next If you can get the wood plug to soak up some penetrating epoxy that would be great. Then cover over with a little fiber glass patch, use a two part epoxy resin. Be ready if you need to mcguyver some sort of system to keep pressure to patch to hold patch firm while resin sets up. A plastic bondo putty blade works great, glass and epoxy usually does not stick. That should last a while till ready for a haul out. If close to water line maybe even heel boat in slip to bring hole out of water a little while minor surgery if done.
Now go sailing!
