OK memory check,,,,all this talk about drilling through Stainless Steel gets me thinking of a demo I saw at the Annapolis Boat show this past october. There was a small booth 10'x10' where a guy was doing a demo with drill bits,,,drilling through all types of stuff and not burning out his bits, He was chomping on a sandwich and had that I dont care my product speaks for itself attitude....anyway, ,,Ive been kicking myself since for not buying a set...I looked through the vendor list from that show and just cant find the company......Did anyone see this guy and demo????...any links???...They weren't that bad priced maybe $65.00 for a small set???? Thanks Rob

Don't count on it works the same when you get home. You can get excellent result with Cobalt drill bits. DeWalt has a kit at Home Depot for about $20 or so. They are used for hard metal drilling. You can tell the difference because they are usually shinny and wider groove. SS is not that hard to drill. Just need to spray the bit with drilling/cutting coolant once a while.

Slow Stainless

Good dill bits are key. Also though, drill stainless slowly. Don't over rev your drill. It will burn the bit out in no time flat. Use a lot of pressure and keep the rpm's of the drill down. Get the cutting action going even if you have a single speed drill, just toggle the trigger to keep it slower. A little bit of liquid also helps. You can buy cutting oil but any oil works, even wd-40. Mike D

There is a thread below "Drilling thru Stainless..

I've done a lot of drilling SS and used a good tip. Mike D. is spot on but use evaporated milk instead of oil. I fill a syringe (like the ones for epoxy) and drizzle it on as the drill cuts. One cobalt drill has lasted through more than 20 holes in thick stainless and is like new.

Bad Dog Tools

I've seen that product demo 20 times and am always impressed. I just got a set but haven't used them yet. You can find them here: http://www.baddogtools.com/new/cat.php?id=2

I thought for sure that someone would

mention the drill doctor device that sharpens bits. A good bit run slowly will chip stainless away. If you get excited and run the bit too fast, not only do you ruin the bit, The stainless becomes harder because it was hot. When working with stainless, take your time. That goes for drilling and cutting with a hack saw. Also filing and polishing. r.w.landau
