Yes Rick, it is an H37C. The HIN is on the outside, tucked up high in the starboard corner of the transom. It was part of the mold. And maybe a shoal draft like mine. I can't tell where the bottom of the keel is on the truck. It actually is shaped more like a fin keel.
Here is a pic that shows the keel...

Definitely the four foot shoal draft keel. If you ever have the boat high enough to see it there is a slot in the bottom of the keel. It is filled with lead but likely Cherubini was considering a swing keel. Or maybe Mars Mfg. had a mold for another boat that was used for the H37C.

I wanted a shoal draft boat.

Meeting a fiberglass guy up there Sunday. If I can get him to fix the transom while I do the scratches. I feel fall coming in the air and who knows how much time I have!?

Hi Rick,

I already have that HIN on the database! There is an Alan3764 registered here at HunterOwners.com who had that boat listed under the name "Kokomo" out of Pensacola FL in his profile. He joined the site in July 2004 (about a year before Hurricane Katrina). You might be able to get in touch with him through this site. He also listed the HIN as H37141M800 but I can tell you that the last zero is actually suposed to be a letter - probably "C" - indicating the month built (in this case, October 1979). The new model year for Hunter started in August so "C" would be three months along - ie October. Hull # 138 (HUN37138M80C - "Chutzpah" of Huntington NY was also built the same month; this pretty well confirms the "0" is a "C"). Anyway, a little history and trivia for you...

Ed and other owners,
Midnight Sun's primaries are Lewmar 46st's. The secondaries are Lewmar 40 st's. When racing you really do use both of them at the same time while changing sails. Having secondaries will also let you take the load off of a primary to clear a bad override, which I am sure only happens to me. The 46's were a great improvement when we started racing with big headsails.

Thanks for the history. The boat had no name on it anywhere. It did have a navy base sticker on it which would fit in to Pensacola... important for the renaming ceremony!
Does anyone have a renaming ceremony they know of?
Rick

OK Rick, I updated the name of Hull 141 to "Drifter" and home port of East Saint Louis IL for now. I left a note about "fomerly Kokomo" etc. I'll update it again when you do the official renaming and give the official home port. l have been making a lot of changes to the H37C database lately, as well as the history. I'll update to the HOW site when things settle out.

Welcome

Welcome Rick and Cathy,
Looks like you've got your work cut out for you. Folks like Mr.Ed, Jim and Mathurn and Ms. Peggy have posted a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge here that I've made good use of on my own '79. Enjoy the adventure. Retirement comes sooner than you think.

John Vigor's International Denaming/ Re naming ceremony can be found here
http://www.johnvigor.com/Denaming.html

I have folllowed it to a T as well as including some other rituals including inscribing the old name and new name on a piece of metal which is chucked overboard "so that King Neptune may change the name on the roster" added a new silver dollar under the mast (in my case on the side of the mast where the mast support meets the headliner) I was going to add a St Christopher medal but then there was some controversy over who the patron saint of sailors actually is....I also removed all traces of the old name.

Enjoy and welcome!!

What is that paint Rick? And how much do you pay the painter? :)
I ask about the kind of paint because some anti-fouling paints "fade" out of the water. They are better left for spring, right before you go in the water.

It was the water based Petite Hydro Coat. I called them and this what they recommend for my out of the water situation. Second coat right before launch...
Cathy loves to paint... I am lucky!

I have two gallons of Hyrdro Coat waiting for spring. How much paint did you, rather Cathy, use for one coat?

Thanks Rick. That is good news. Next fall we get to see how it works. It has not gotten very high marks in salt water.
