Hi. I just inherited an Oday 25 that has been on the hard for few years. over the winter some water seems to have collected in the well and is not draining out. where is the drain?

Are you referring to the sink basins? or the ice chest? or the bilge? or the cockpit? Please better define "the well"

It seems you are referring to the bilge (the space between the cabin sole and the hull). Unless it was added by a previous owner, there is no manufacturer-installed drain for this space. You could add one yourself, but most people try and minimize the number of below the waterline holes in the hull. Without putting in a new thru-hull, you clear the bilge of water by pumping it out. Look in the cockpit locker to see if there is a manual pump already installed. Automatic pumps have been installed in many of these boats too, but based on the fact that you have water in the bilge, it seems that you don't have one, or maybe its broken or the battery is dead. Or the water level in the bilge might be too low to set it off. Worse comes to worse, get yourself a hand pump and get crackin'.

Yep, I agree. A bilge pump, manual or electric is what you should add or use. No reason to install a drain hole in the hull.

Look underneath the boat and see if there are any thru hull fittings. I'd worry where the water came from. Most likely through the chainplates. You're in the right place. many of us have been there.

It's possible that rain water might be getting in from a deck fitting, the rub rail, or between the chain plates and it could be gathering in that area under the sole plate. Years ago I installed a manual bilge pump in my cabin that can be worked with a detachable handle in the cockpit. I've never had to use it but it's there when I need it.
I would try to find out where the water is coming in and put a stop to the leak. Leaks can cause big problems down the road that involve replacing rotten core in the fiberglass. Also check hoses particularly the self bailing cockpit hose.

The answer is get a large bucket, a small scoop bucket and large sponge. Use the aforementioned standard boat equipment to get water out. Do not think of adding drain plug, you will only sink the boat.

If there is really large amount of water, a long hose and hose syphon starter will expedite extraction of water.

Water in boat that is not supposed to be there will damage boat.

Thanks all. I spent time inspecting the entire boat and found a leak in one of the ports on the starboard side. The boat was on the hard when I posted this and the water must have come in from the snow melt over the port and through the vent (no it was not covered). Anyway I was unsure about the boats configuration, and there was so much water in the cabin that i thought a drain hole to the bilge was clogged or something, I now understand completely and thouroughly how the boat is construced and am happy to say, no more water in boat and boat is in the water now.
