I have a 1976 27 foot hunter. When you are entering the cabin, under the steps over the engine, under the bottom stair there is a drain hole through the hull. Do you know if this a standard drain hole or if it was put in later?

I have the same boat...

I think the original design lacked a drain hole in this small engine sump you are referring to. I drilled two small holes in the sump to relieve any water that may for one reason or another collect there under the engine. I always check it to make certain the holes are clear of grease of oil.

It could be original for 1976

Now manufacturers do not drain sumps under the engine unto the bilge to prevent oil or fuel contaminated waters, in the eventuality of a leak, from being pumped into inland or coastal waters. Years back it was standart to drain into the bilge.

The hole goes right through the hull, I'm trying to find out if this is the original hole or if someone drilled a hole in the bottom? When it rains water in the cockpit drains out of the bottom of the boat.
