I am in the market for a boat. One boat that is very interesting to me is the O'Day 28. I am getting mixed signals or information as to the draft of this boat. One boat, a 1984, lists the draft as 4' 8", the other, a 1986 lists the draft as 4' 6". What is the real number? Thanks for the information. John

Good Morning We owned a 28' O'day for about ten years, ours was a shoal keel...it was 3'9" with the board up and over 8' with the board fully extended. The boat was very versitile..pointed well, and handled well in all other points of sail. I am aware that they made another version with a "winged keel" and another with a "fin". Not sure of the exact dimensions but am sure that you can find it in this web site under specifications. Good luck!

I have 1983 O'Day 28 and my owners manual states the draft is 4' 6". Whatever it turns out to be I think you will be pleased with a 28. The boat is layed out better than any boat in it's class (28'-35'). I have sailed mine both on a large lake in Texas and currently in the Florida Keys. We sailed her to the Bahamas last spring and have spent 6 month's on her during the last year. Good Luck

the shallow draft is the centerboard version of the boat, the deeper is a keel model. o'day made both. I have a centerboard model, no problems, like the shallower draft because it allows ability to sneek into more places

Rare Find -3'8"shoal keel
John, O'Day made a limited number of 28's with a 3'8" shoal draft fin keel. Mine is a 1985 and weighs 300 lbs more than the standard fin keel version. She sails very well and still lets me get into those shallow anchorages that we have here in the keys. I have been on many boats, but I have to rank the O'28 as one of the best in this size range. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Happy Hunting PM
