I'm considering a light air reaching/running sail and the UPS looks quite attractive. I would like to see one before deciding. Is there anyone on the western side of Lake Michigan who would let me take a look at theirs?

We have a Doyle UPS

It's hard to explain the quirks, but overall, if adjusted properly, the UPS sail is great to look at and makes for a nice sail on a reach. We received our sail with too small of a furling drum (Doyle did replace it- but we still wonder if it's too small). Only with some luck are you able to completely furl so that you can tack easily. Typically, we run out of fuling line before the sail is completely furled. We use 1/8" line and can't go smaller. Still, we do like the furling feature over a genaker w/ a sock that you have to manually handle.

UPS

Qw hVW UPS on our P42. As previously mentioned, it's a real good reaching ssil from about 60deg to 150deg apparent wind depending on windspeed. It's fabulous on a beam reach. I replaced the furling line with a lot longer piece of line but still getting the sail to furl completely is problematic. Luff tension is critical to furling success. We generally jibe under the sail rather than tacking. I've found that if you do get the luff tension right, it will furl well except for the top foot or so. the sail is similar to a code zero spinnaker as described in a recent issue of either "Sail" or "Cruising World".
