We bought North Sails
We shopped prices for a mainsail and 150% genoa at the Philly boat show and got a quote from Doyle, North Sails, and Sails Direct. Doyle emphasized their quality, and their price was significantly higher for our 27' Starwind. We wanted dacron sails for day sailing. I would have been very comfortable buying from them. However, North followed up with a phone call within a week. I had been reviewing their materials and was leaning their way because price was less for what I perceived to be comparable quality. Ron LaNeve from their Manasquan loft sold these sails to us and actually recommended a less expensive option in the material based on our sailing needs, after I indicated that I was willing to spend more for the more expensive material. I was impressed that he wasn't trying to "oversell" me when he could have.He personally climbed all over my boat in the snow to get exact measurements and spent a lot of time on the phone discussing the product. We ordered the sails the first week in February and they were ready for us in the second week of March. I'd say that was very good service. So far they look great, but we haven't bent them yet!I'm not sure I understand the difference between the brand name North sails and the Sails Direct brand which supposedly uses the North sails material but at far less price. Is it because they are not custom fit, but made based on the stated IPJE dimensions?
