I'm looking at Doyle sails and the Doyle Cradle Cover for my new/old Passage 42. Anyone using them or could make other recommendations?

Thanks,
Bill

Bill:

Most of the sail makers make these units. I received an estimate at a show last year and it was about $100/ft ($1850 for our Hunter Vision 36).

I don't like putting on the cover, but for $2k I will suffer.

Thanks Steve,

On a P42 with the bimini and the arch, you would need to be about 8ft tall to put a cover on. Perhaps a few monkeys would work, but to be honest the kind of scare me.

We have issues with our Dodger/Bimini too. I end up moving the boom over to the starboard side to put the cover on. We have a "Jack" system that is a PIA but it contains most of the sail most of the time.

If you have a hard time getting the cover on, aren't you going to have a difficult time zipping the zipper too?!!!

Zipping shouldn't be a problem, they say that they have a continuous line that goes up to the head of the sail, so in theory you pull the line along the boom and it zips up to the mast.

The boat currently has a Mackpak that has seen it better days and the sail spills out over the sides of the pak and the zipper is hard to move.

I think that the cradle makes more sense because the lazy jacks are attached to the upper part of the cradle which should help to prevent the sail from spilling over, where as the Mackpack jacks go under the boom.
