Well I tested my homemade sprit pole and Akite combination today. All I can say is HOLY COW!! The AWA that I can now hold is near 170, a huge improvement over the 125 before with the kite tacked to the anchor roller. The head remains rolled to weather with excellent boat speed. I'm going to have to develope a new set of polars for my boat now. The boat is a frac rig and I will be adding a masthead halyard for a new VMG kite that I bought. I don't think my racing friends are going to be any too pleased to see the new setup.

Alan: Where do you race and where do you normally position - Probably 1st or 2nd I would guess.

Thanks Don

Let me say it this way. The Mrs says if I come home with any more silver I can polish it myself or store it in the garage. Thank goodness that many trophies are now polished pewter or crystal.(no cleaning!!) My sailing area is western Long Island Sound. After what I've discovered about this sprit, I don't understand why more boats don't use them. I can fly a big Akite, sail deep and kick ass all while sailig short handed. Where's the down side?

Alan, I assume you are racing in a PHRF fleet. What did the addition of the new A-sail and sprint do to your rating? I would imagine you got at least a six second reduction in your handicap.
