Congrats on your new baby!

It looks like a fun pocket cruiser and at 19' is the same length as my Lightning sailboat except you can actually sleep on yours. I also have a 27' Tartan that I share with a partner. The smaller the boat the easier it is to use and the Starwind 19' looks easy to trailer as well. This link has photos of other Starwind boats: http://www.sailingtexas.com/cboats99starwind.html Enjoy!

I don't own a Starwind but the photo here

http://www.sailingtexas.com/sstarwind19c.html clearly shows how the rig has a small, tensionable split back stay set up (4th picture down the page). This helps keep the back stay support out of the way of the tiller and allows you to rake the mast while under way. I have a similar setup on my Lightning 19'. Hope this helps.

backstay

The backstay on my Starwind is not split. I have the option of attaching it to either side of the stern rail. I believe they are all set up this way. On a another subject. Davey, I'm thinking about taking 6 weeks off work in February/March of 2010 to sail the Florida Keys. Any suggestions?

Keys

I was there for 4 days in 2005 with my daughter. We did the snorkel excursions at Pennecamp Park. This June we'll return for a week as a graduation present for my daughter. With my wife and daughter along, there will be more shopping than anything else. I do want to see more of Key West's history. The 2010 trip is a 50th birthday gift to my self, and possibly a childhood friend. We spent our 30's touring the States by motorcycle and since taking a job with the State of Illinois, haven't been able to travel. My plans are to launch out of Miami, sail through the Keys, the Marquesas, and the Dry Tortugas. I'm not taking a vacation next year to have enough time saved. I'm sure with 6 weeks, I'll be able to see quite a lot. I've researched the weather for February/March, and it looks like an ideal time. (it's also the only time i can get 6 weeks off) I'll look for the book! Carl

Starwind 19,,, windows

Replacement windows are available from Beckson, I got all four in early o7 and they are just right. You do not have to use barrel nuts, but you need to get the right length screws and I suggest you use acorn nuts in the inside for protection. I also used Dow Corning #795 to seal the windows. the bend on the forward windows is somewhat difficult but get your wife to help and she will remember it for a long time. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Dale
