Down wind in an H27

We need some down-wind speed for our 1993 H27(OB). We did great in our first season of racing (won the 1998 Claytor Lake Cup) but in a multi-class fleet corrected by the Portsmith rule, we are getting trashed by the centerboarders when ever there is a big down-wind leg. They set their spinnakers and fly away. Should we just rig a gennaker on the regular jib halyard, or spend the big bucks on a mast-head spinnaker set-up? Broad-reaching back and forth with our 150 is just not cutting it. Since we can't pull up a board to reduce drag, we need more power. But HOW?

Downwind

Just sold my 78 Hunter 27 IB. We raced on friday nights and the weekends with handicaps. Buy a used, light weight 155% for downwind and offwind sailing. Use a tack extension of about 2 feet to get the sail over the lifelines and free fly the sail. {allows easy change out}. Make sure you use a whisker pole to keep the sail from collapsing. Also check your rig and mast bend. If you dont have one, install a backstay adjuster. Good Luck.
