Down at the stern

My Widgeon sits on the water lower at the stern and higher at the bow. At the stern she is not lower than the waterline, but at the bow, her bottom is out a couple of inches. There is no water in the bilge. Her transom is very heavy because it is supposed to handle a motor. Some pictures I have seen of other Widgeons also look like they are a little down at the stern. Is this anything to be concerned about? Regards, Mark

Nothing is wrong

Mark - As long as the stern in not below the waterline you should have nothing to worry about. One of the things that contribute to the stability of the O'day daysailer line are the boyant bows. When you're heeled over and stuff the bow into a wave you go over it rather than through it so the force of the angled water tends not to swamp you. These boats are well designed. Thanks Justin!

Thanks Justin - she sits just right at the stern so everything is great. Also, I see you are from Portland, Maine. I have spent summers on Great Diamond Island since I was a little kid. Absolutely beautiful! I love Casco Bay. Someday I will get my Widgeon up there. Regards, Mark
