Upon visiting Marigot Bay, St. Lucia, last year, I chanced upon an aging Hunter 25, now owned by a local sailor. His story is that it was once Robin Lee Graham's famed circumnavigator. Sure enough, shadowed beneath the painted surface, was the imprint of DOVE as well as the hailing port. Nice to know these Cherubinis take such punishment and face longevity with grace.

While the Hunter 25 is a tough little boat,in my opinion, the major thing it lacks over the lapworth is a full keel.

The original Dove sank in 1995 when Hurricane Marilyn passed through the Virgin Islands. The 33' boat was named "The Return of Dove" There must be hundreds of boats named Dove in the Caribbean alone. I was one of those who followed Robin's voyage through the pages of National Geographic. I think he went crusing for a while after he finished the circumnavigation and then sold the boat and moved to the mountains out west. I wonder what he is up to now.

You have convinced me, David. While the boat I saw was a Hunter 25 and had the ghosting of DOVE embossed, it must have been another vessel. I was convinced by the Lucian owner and should have done the research myself. I will stop spreading the rumor!
