I have a Hunter 280 and race on a Laser 28. The Laser has a dual ribbed forstay that allows us to run up a jib on the starboard rib and set the genny on the port rib. It works very well and does not require additonal hardware.
I don't know if your post was intended as a question, but you seem to be describing a Headfoil / Tuff Luff system and I've had one on my 28.5 since I bought it new in '86. It is a plastic extrusion slipped on over the existing headstay with a stainless steel feeder and a stainless & bronze pre-feeder. It provides a smoother sail entry and allows you to change headsails quicker.
