Double Berth

I recently purchased a 1981 O'Day 25. I believe at one time, this boat had the slide out double berth on the port side. I can see where it would rest on the step and the rail attached to the bulkhead which are both at the same level as the settee. I also have three cushions which I suspect where used as a mattress for the slide out.

What I don't know is what else is needed to make this functional. Was there just a piece of plywood? Was there any support in the middle of the board? Does anyone have a pic of what it is supposed to look like?

I'm not at my boat just now, but basically the berth is just a piece of plywood that sits on top of the original single when not in use. When making up a double the front end sits on the bulkhead strip and I don't remember without looking, what the aft end sits on. Never use it in any case. Ernie

It is like a sliding shelf. Mine has no center support. It always seemed kind of lightweight for a full size adult, so we have never used it. Might be just fine with something slid under the middle to beef it up.

Above is correct. It is just a piece of plywood that slides out on some rails beneath the second companionway step and the bulkhead. If you wait until spring I can get you exact dimensions of the plywood.

Oh, and the plywood does have a strip of teak attached to it to make it look nice.

It gets it stability from the teak strip at the outside. I sleep on that berth all the time and I'm around 190 lbs. I'll try to take a pic and measurements of the plywood Wednesday.

Let me know if you have any questions. The lip is the same as the lip used on the opposite side bunk. The black squares are velcro to hold the extra cushion in place when sleeping.
