double bed for bow area

Has anyone had a luck in making a platform/ base for a double bed in the bow area of the 260? Sleeping on the table turned around is not the best, and the aft is to small for large people. I have been looking for something that could be set up at night and put away during the day. Any ideas?

An idea for a better nights rest

I have a h26, if your boat is like mine, the table will not drop down level with the seats. What I've done is raise the table to the roof and drill another hole in the post to hold it up. I'm still on the planning stage on the next part, but so far the plan is to make two inserts that go on each side of the compression post, and extend back to where the galley begins and fill in the u space that's left with the table gone. Coming up with cushions to fit the space will be the hardest part (could probably make them if custom cushions are to pricy). When I'm not using them I will put over the seat backs (maybe with velcro) or stow them in the aft berth somewhere. Keep in mind of course, that the centerboard line is running through the post. Also make damn sure to clean the holes in the compression post so the burr's don't snag this line. (common sense) I don't think the extra holes will compromize the integrety of the compression post but I could be wrong. Even if you don't build the inserts, its still nice to be able to get to the huge storage compartments in the bow with the table out of the way. Any ideas on these (inserts)? Hope this helps. Big Curt

Alternative to drilling holes

Instead of drilling new holes in the post, would a clamp or u-bolt on the post hold the table up as well?

Headache

Think a better or positive securement is order. Can't imagine sleeping under the table with only a clamp holding it up, you might wake, if your lucky, with a headache!

I thought it dropped

I saw one of the first 260's right after it was released at the Annapolis Boat Show. We were talking about the differences with the 26 and they demonstrated how the table dropped to seat level. This particular 260 also had a winged keel. Markdb

The 260 keel is now called a 270 and

since there is no c/b (swing keel) housing there is room for the table to drop. You can remove the pin in the compression post in a swing keel model but the large conical support under the table would hit the c/b housing before it nested in the notch around the table seating. One would have to remove that conical housing and rig some sort of support system for the table when it was in the dining position. alan

Table improvement on the 26

Since only my wife and I are on our 26 95% of the time we tired of the table length real fast. So...I cut 16 inches off the long end of the table. I started on the long straight stretch with a tight radius into the original slow radius for the cross run and then back into the tight radius comming out the other side. Now the end of the table appears to have the same curved end but allows LOTS more cabin room. 2 adults and 3 kids can still eat on it. There is now huge room if you turn it around and even then there is about 1 foot of room to the seat cushions. We bought some edge metal (aluminium) at the hwd store and screwed it on and it looks better than factory. Ray S/V Speedy
