Sharps Island Light is on the Chesapeake and about 11 miles SE of my marina. When the winds are favorable, I sail over to it and back on a typical summer daysail. Take a look at its precarious angle. The second one built there was actually picked up by an ice floe and carried 5 miles south! Can you imagine being aboard at that time? Under way with no way on... or something. Rules of the road? The third one built there is the present one, which was also damaged severly by ice in the 1970s....

Take a look: http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=430http://www.rickslighthouses.com/sharps_island.htm

Post a pic of your favorite lighthouse -- I love 'em!

Yes, they are really neat history pieces.. There used to be some that were offered as bed & Breakfast Inns but I don’t think that is available any more.. We have one on Lake Pontchartrain that has been there since 1838 that is being restored now. Two close to New Orleans got demolished by the recent storms, the old West Rigolets Lighthouse (1855) and the New Canal Lighthouse. The New Canal house won a contest to get new windows from the Jeld-Win company (like Thomas Point on the Chesapeake) and will be rebuilt into an education center..

Burnt Coat Harbor light on Swans Island. Not my favorite light but my favorite photo of a lighthouse. Lots of great trails to hike here also.

Here are some more:

This one is my favorite Lighthouse. The name on the photo is incorrect. See if you can identify it.

Can you tell that I like Lighthouses? This is about 1/4 of the photos I have of Lighthouses. We have lots of these old beauties in Maine.

Tim, I've got the itch to cruise on up your way. Your pics are fuel for the fire. Just need the wife to get more vacation to have enough time to make the trip.

Thomas Point light is really neat. I think that there is also a picture of the new St. Clements lighthouse in there.
