AP Story on that Sailboat
Here is the AP wirestory on that wrecked boat on WeatherChannel:$100,000 sailboat wrecked, then nearly buried by Dennis Thursday, September 2, 1999 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A $100,000 sailboat that slammed against a pier and was nearly buried in the sand by pounding surf caused by Tropical Storm Dennis will remain at the foot of the pier until the seas return to normal. The 37-foot, unpiloted boat's repeated crashing against the fishing pier did between $10,000 and $20,000 damage, pier owner Robert Lachman said Wednesday. Boat owner William Lubke said he was sailing from Maine to his Orlando, Fla., home Tuesday when heavy seas and winds made continuing the journey impossible. He first called to Coast Guard, hoping to get a two to shore, but when the boat began taking on water at about 4 p.m., he was rescued from the sea by a Coast Guard helicopter and abandoned the boat, leaving it tossing in the ocean. It reached the pier later Tuesday.
