I am planing to go to Baltimore this weekend, but Dennis still remains a treat to the Chesapeake Bay. I will do the trip in 2 days - from Hartges in the West River to the north of Gibson Is on Thursday and the second day up to the Inner Harbor Marina, Baltimore. The return will be on Monday or Tuesday depending ont eh weather. Should I go. Matias Boriken H376

Va. Beach bashing.

Did you see the 37-foot cutter being hammered against the pier on the Weather Channel video? Last night they showed a rescue and then the boat being blown ashore and against the Virginia Beach pier. Sure looked like a Hunter. Not a pretty picture.

It's a gamble

i just returned from 7 of a 10 day trip to Antigua. Cindy, Dennis and E were spawned off Africa. With today's early warnings.. you get to know about a new disturbance every other day.. If money is an issue, don't go. If money is not an issue.. great waves.. go for it. jim

AP Story on that Sailboat

Here is the AP wirestory on that wrecked boat on WeatherChannel: $100,000 sailboat wrecked, then nearly buried by Dennis Thursday, September 2, 1999 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A $100,000 sailboat that slammed against a pier and was nearly buried in the sand by pounding surf caused by Tropical Storm Dennis will remain at the foot of the pier until the seas return to normal. The 37-foot, unpiloted boat's repeated crashing against the fishing pier did between $10,000 and $20,000 damage, pier owner Robert Lachman said Wednesday. Boat owner William Lubke said he was sailing from Maine to his Orlando, Fla., home Tuesday when heavy seas and winds made continuing the journey impossible. He first called to Coast Guard, hoping to get a two to shore, but when the boat began taking on water at about 4 p.m., he was rescued from the sea by a Coast Guard helicopter and abandoned the boat, leaving it tossing in the ocean. It reached the pier later Tuesday.
