today there was a large sailboat on the reef that hadn't been there yesterday, looked like they tried to patch & pump all day without success. Breaks my heart to think of a good boat in the surf.
Notice the jib sheets........they are completly loose...so either he panicked...or this is a stunt....it looks like there is some wind and with the sheets tightened correctly he should have had steerage....I was looking for prop wash also but cant see any. That would be such a waste as a stunt...looks like a nice boat...but Holly wood has spent a lot more for much less.Your right about the keel dont see one...maybe its a centerboard.any way its just a bummer!
An amazing site Friday morning as a Sailboat and it's two passengers where washed up on the beach and rescued by the This is what it says on the home page:"Sailboat waiting Coast Guard. Apparently his anchor line got caught in his prop and he was at the mercy of the ocean. Pictures."
As I read it: He was motoring and fouled his prop and then tried to sail out of trouble with the genny... Looks like the sail cover is still on the main. I guess the wind put him on the beach before he could raise the main.
Based on the information provided by p323ms and Rob, I'm going to have to retract my comments and offer an apology to the pilot of the boat in the event he reads this. Things happen quick and if in fact his prop was fouled, it's not hard to imagine something like this happening. *X
Now, having read some of the explainations, I guess that this sounds like it can happen if the prop was fouled. Sorry Also, there is no wind to help him out of the situation. Hence the sheets are loose. Look at the boom on the main - it's almost on deck (no topping lift).
