We've all had days like that. The sail can be repaired by a sail maker, and it's a good idea to run some thread on the other seams too. I suspect the filter is clogged on the engine. Perhaps it wasn't run in a long time? What may be worth while is to get a good water-seperator fuel filter before your next trip and get an extra cartridge. And, get a manual for your engine (Boatswains' Locker in Newport Beach is the Yanmar west coast distributor) so you can learn how to bleed the engine if you don't already know. I was working on one old boat of which I am a part owner. We were worried about the fuel. I took an electric fuel pump I purchased at Pep Boys, hooked it to the battery with some alligator clips, and re-routed the fuel lines so as to route fuel trough the filter and then back into the tank fill. We rocked the boat and shoved the return line around the tanks to stir up as much sediment and water as possible and it worked. At least the filter picked up some debris and a little water. Kinda a poor man's fuel polishing. Anyhow, you are making good progress on the boat and you'll have a great time with it. Rick D. PS: I learned how to sail by reading a library book too. That's one advabtage of a diesel

Troy: One of the advantages of a diesel is that you only need battery power to start your engine. You do not need power for it to run. I would suggest that you get some large gas cans and empty the entire fuel tank. Take the old stuff to a disposal site (some fire departments will take it). Then rinse out the tank with some fresh diesel and drain it. Replace all of the low pressure rubber lines. You may also want to consider having the injector/s cleaned/tested too. These are great boats and are worth all of your sweat equity. Catalina may only be days away!
