I just bought a 1982 Hunter 22. The boat is in pretty good shape but I have a few little things to do before the season. I just put a new red and green running light on the boat. I was pretty psyked when it worked perfectly. I figued that I might as well check the stern light. When I checked the stern light it was not working (blown bulb). Well, when I started taking the light apart to replace the bulb the lense broke into three pieces. It seems like everytime I fix something I find something else that needs to be repaired (also found out that I need to replace my steaming light's bulb). Oh, Does anyone have any ideas on an easy way to access the very back of the boat? I can't fit into those small spaces and I need to find a slight leak that is coming from the cockpit area, near the scupper.

Matt, you sound like your new to this. Welcome!

All you can do is enjoy your boat as much as possible and then move UP! Size matters. And moving up later on, is such a rush.

Small Kids

The best way is to use small kids ie, a son or a best friend's son ect. On the stern light, if it's on the port side, there maybe an access port installed. You can install one your self. I have an 82 H22 also. Hull number 14.

My Wife might work

My wife is very small (5'6" 115lbs) She would work but I can't seem to draw her interest in working on the boat (guess this nasty cold winter doesn't do much for her). I do enjoy working on the boat (think I do more daydreaming about sailing and having warmer weather than I accomplish). Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the leak near the scupper? It is not coming from the places where the hose joins in? Oh, one more question....Does anyone know if the 1982 Hunter 22 came with a bilge pump installed? If so where is it located?

H22 stuff

Well, let's see, I'm sitting in Minneapolis airport and just this morning had my '82 H22 out for a sail at home on the St. Johns River. Now THAT is how you should spend Feb. 5th! The bilge for the 22 should go into that hole (technical term) in the cabin floor under the sink. I just have a small one in there and it runs back to a drain on the starboard side. Works like a charm with the little bit if water that seems to come in from the centerboard. Enjoy the boat, it's a dream. (Today was 20mph winds, only under reefed main. The wife-o-meter didn't even raise a stink!) dlg "sea monkeys"

If your bigger than 5'8", 185lbs....

.....your screwed. I just BARELY fit in the port lazerette. I installed wheel steering last year and it was not fun bolting it down and cabling it up from underneath. (pics are on this site by the way) Good luck.

David,.....Three questions?

Hey David, What company made the bilge pump, what size is it, and how did you fix it down to the floor? Oh, did you put a floating switch in? I found a hose and I can't figure out where it leads. I am thinking that it might be a bilge pump but I can't find where the hose ends up (kind of compact in there).

Go on a diet and fix that leak!

Matt; Join Weight watchers (like I did), lose 50 lbs (whew, it was hard work!), remove the board on the port side that seperates your cocpict locker from the inside and crawl all the way through until you are IN the locker. From there, you can see the hoses that drain your cockpit. Do yourself a favor and have someone block-up the thru hole and pour water into the hoses until they fill - and lok for leaks in the hoses. I had a small leak that filled the baen beneath the cockpit with a couple inces ow water every couple weeks; I left the boat at the mooring for 2 weeks and came back to find her UNDER the mooring! Learned the hard ay (1) small leaks become big leaks, (2) source of water was rain water, (3)those hoses are only a couple inches above the waterline. That means when the point of the leak gets below the waterline the sea water starts coming in real fast! Like everone else, I too had much trouble finding a way to rig a bilge pump on my 22...now I will have two - one in the bilge, and one under the cockpit. Oh, you should be able to get to that light from there as well ;-)...Seth
