Does anyone race the 450 or 460?

Been there

I'm curious if anyone races their large Hunters. I have not seen these boats in any PHRF lists. From their stats, I would assume that these boats sail quite a bit faster than the Legend 43.

Not the 450

Hard to imagine a 450 racing, with all that windage and somuch beam carried aft, but I'll bet the 460 will its share of action once a few of them get out incirculation.

All the Time!

You bet we do. We regularly race as long as there are light winds, cooler full of beer and at least three fishing lines off the stern. We can't seem to win, though, because we keep stopping to reel in the fish.

Chris Oldham did.

A couple of points, Chris Oldham did race the 450, off shore, Newport R.I. to Bermuda type stuff. Don't know if he ever got a PHRF rating for it though. Might check by Emailing him. He still has the Passagemaking web site. Second, Phil the 450 and 460 have the same hull. Yes the 460 has less windage but the Transome ,"wide" ,is the same. Bob

PHRF for H460

I have just applied for a PHRF rating in So. Calif for my H460. I will post the rating when received. I have been unable to find any ratings for the 450 or the 460 in other PHRF regions.

Don't race but could @ 9.5 knts

New years day I took some friends, (that stayed on board from previous nights celebrations)for a sail on Sydney Harbour. The wind was about 20knts from the south. We were on a shy reach with 1/3 furled headsail and 1/3 furled main. You can imagine the grin from ear to ear when the GPS said 9.5 over the ground. We were in the widest part of the Harbour so I don't consider that tidal flows contributed substantially. I didn't check leeway. Since then we have consistently achieved 8 and 8.5 knts. You mighn't win the races but I'm sure that you won't be at the back of the field. All the best!
