Hello all. I am new here. I have only recently decided to get back into sailing not that I did a great deal before hand and it was many many years ago lol. I am wondering if anyone can indentify this boat. We just bought her this past summer. She was built in southwestern ontario in 1985 one of only a handful. The yard has since gone out of business. There is NO ident plate anywhere on board and we have looked. Anyhow failing that have a look at my album and you will see what we are doing with her. She is a swing keel / glass hull mahogony cabin.

Thanx for the reply. Believe me we have tried looking at images. It does sort of resemble a SJ 21, but her prow is much more 'blunted' then those I have seen. Also the cabin does not quite extend all the to the gunwhales as with the SJ 21's we actually have a 'slight' toe hold of 3 or 4 inches. The biggie seems to be that our setup is akin to a shoal draft with the keel up ie it does not retrack into the cabin but a keel box below the hull. The other noticable difference being I think that our mast is deck stepped on the cabin just fore of the companion way hatch. She sports 150 square feet of sail ie combined main(100) and jib(50) which is on a fuller. Mast length 23 feet with a 10 boom.

Hiee Kevin,

What is it that you find 'odd looking' about her? The only thing I dislike about her lines being the bowsprit which seems to have been a tack on when the roller fuller was added as an after though. I will be redoing that along the way as well.

Hiee Ken,

She is quite roomy which is one of the things I adored about her. She does not afford stand up headroom which I aspire to have some day, but there is ample room to sit quite comfortably on the quarter berths, head and v-berth without having to scrunch down for lack of head room. We did loose 2'' of head room in raising the sole height though. The bilge is all of 6'' deep on the keel line now and its still a snug fit to get the electric pump and switch in there.

Our daily highs are now just above freezing so all work for the most part has come to a standstill until spring arrives once again.

c_witch,

Can't help with the identification of your boat. Just wanted to say I looked at your pictures of rebuild you are doing and wanted to compliment you on your work so far. The idea of moving the galley sounds like a good idea if you have no need of the quarter berth. Should be a fun boat to spend time on.
You may want to post on sailfar.net The folks there know quite a bit about other boats and there are some from Canada who may know what you have.
Good luck and many happy voyages

Thank you for your kind remarks about the refit. I am seriously thinking about moving the galley aft to where the starboard bunk is. At least here the cooking and washing can be done standing up in the companion way and not bent over or on ones knee's lol. I don't want to modify it to much as this is a boat for me to get my feet wet again (its been many years since I've done any sailing). The proceeds of the sale of this will be going towards the purchase of my dream boat a 35 footer that I hope to coast jump around the world some day. That may or maynot happen as at the moment I am not comfortable with true 'blue water sailing' :(.

Merry Christmas and happy sailing :)
