Does anyone know how to replace the pendant (cable) used to lift the centerboard on my O'Day 25? I've been able to access the point on the centerboard already where the cable enters the top of the board. Is there a pin and do I have to drill out a plug? If so, what's the plug made of? Lastly, can I replace the existing cable with a Dacron Line of a certain diameter? Alot of questions, I know, but any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Theres a shackle attached to the board. Yes a line is fine, as thats what the replacement lines are...no more wire to rope splice and any line less than 3/8 is fine. Try to get as narrow a shackle as possibe to prevent it from jamming up in the trunk when you raise the board. I painted a ref mark on my rope so that I can pull it up quickly without yanking it up too far. Hope this helps. ...I don't have a shackle on my 1976 . The wire feeds straight into a fine hole on the trailing edge of the center board. This hole meets up with a 1-1/2 inch diameter hole drilled partially into the starboard side of the board that forms a little pocket. The pocket is maybe 2-3 inches in from the trailing edge. The wire is terminated with a crimped-on slug that nests in the pocket and prevents the wire from being pulled out. The pocket was filled with epoxy/filler to keep the slug in place. I used a dremel with a cutting bit to clean out the old epoxy plug. This was how it was set up when I adopted the boat, so I replaced it the same way. I was concerned that an all rope pendant might rot so I stayed with a rope/wire one. Is my concern about rotting unjustified? One advantage is that without a shackle there is nothing to get jammed in the C/B trunk when pulling the centerboard all the way up. Where the wire is spliced into the rope I tightly bound the splice with waxed twine to prevent it from chaffing. I had an old but useable rope/wire halyard to make my new pendant, I cut the wire part back so that with the C/B all the way up the rope/wire splice just enters the cockpit. I did this 5 years ago and it seems to be holding up fine.
