It's OK in the Rain
Brent: How much does the cover sell for? I have one for my 1980 C-22 but haven't used it for about 15 years. It is made very well, from off-white vinyl with clear windows. It works by snapping around the top of the cabin onto snaps, (lots of snaps). There is a zipper in front of the mast, and one by the main hatchway. There are also snaps on the teak by the main hatchway, 3 on each side. It works well in the rain, giving more room, almost enough to stand up, depending on your height. Also, there is room behind the mast that gives you a little more storage room if you are stuck on the boat in the rain. The drawbacks are that it is heavy, and it takes up quite a bit of room, about 2 feet X 2 feet x 2 inches. It also takes a little while to put on. As I said it's good in the rain, but if there are thunder storms in the area, I prefer to have the pop-top down, unless I'm in a slip or in a really protected anchorage. What I really think would really be a good idea would be a nylon version of this cover with screen windows all around it, possibly with flaps all around it that could be zipped closed like those on a tent. This could let a lot of air into the boat and still keep the bugs out. (When it gets hot and humid, we just can't get enough air through our boat. I'm still working on that problem.) I don't recommend that you buy one without seeing it, unless you can get it really cheap. Aldo
