We had 8" here in western Massachusetts last Friday, and 6 more last night. It's blowin' like crazy and we are promised 3-4" more including 1/2" of ice for later today and tomorrow. I'm spending some real 'quality time' in my winter RV. I guess I should really qualify my title question- Does anyone FAR SOUTH of me feel badly for me, or do I deserve what I get for living here?

I wish I was there...

But I am headed to the marina and my boat, in San Diego. I do miss the snow and four seasons. I envy you that much. But I am glad I do have year round sailing here. To answer your question, yes, I feel bad for you, and all the east coasters who cannot sail.

If you want to see snow,

come up to vermont. we have plenty to spare. That tractor of yours might get lost in my driveway and it's only just begun. A winter statistic: 98% of Americans say "OH SHIT!" before going in the ditch on a slippery road. The other 2% are from Vermont and they say, "Hold my beer and WATCH THIS." George

"Whack, whack, whack"

Today my blower started to go "Whack, whack, whack". I think it is the belt. The machine is five years old and I use it 10-15 hours a year, I would think a belt would last longer than that.

No way

I love the snow. Picked up my boards today and heading to the mountain tomorrow. Took a nice walk on the beach this morning with my wife and dog in 25mph blowing snow. Yeehaa! Can't wait for my week in Feb. in VT! Tim R.

Cubs

had a great season. And what's more, there is glimmer of hope Sammy doubled in size without drugs; perhaps he was eating cork.

Underpowered Simplicity

Hey Rich, I do feel badly for you. But not because of your weather. My neighbour has just fitted a 600hp V8 to his Simplicity. It has twin Rhombium-plated superchargers, an extra-heavy duty blower, giant slicks, quadraphonic stereo etc. I feel badly for you that your machine seems underpowered. Peter

Well I have mixed feelings.......

In looking at the picture you posted, I notice you have the advantage of an enclosed "Nav station". However, it appears that you have lost your mast, so I'm not sure how you're going to get around. At least, while you're sitting at the dock those big black fenders should protect you from bumps. I'm not sure about that thing out front...........is that to fend off tankers or a new style of "bow bulb"? Interesting rig! I notice you're singlehanding.

Say what, Dancing Bear??!!!

Did I miss something? Is Sammy back with the Cubs! (How did he avoid that list?) I keep wondering why they don't go after Ivan Rodriques (Pudge). Isn't he available again??? How can they miss the third opportunity to sign him. With him on the Cubs in 2003 (instead of the Marlins), the Cubs would have been in the World Series. They need at least one spark to get over the hump (I'm not giving up yet!) :) George, I like that one! I'm looking forward to a trip to Sugarbush! Jim, we've got plenty of snow in my neck of the woods, but it's been raining lately. The slush on the driveway is going to be ice tomorrow, the cold is coming! We had so much rain in October and early November, then snow from the week of Thanksgiving on, I am way behind on construction. If we don't get a few weeks of decent weather, I'll be in deep shit and skiing may not be an option I can enjoy. *grr Rich, not just no, but hell no, I don't feel sorry for you :). My wife broke a shear pin on our snow blower Thursday. I need to get out there and get the slush off the driveway before it freezes! Have fun!

Come on down

If you can get out through the snow, come on down to the gulf coast for our little get together on Dec. 29th. Can guarantee no snow, no ice, except for in your drink, and lots of warm hospitality.

maintenance time

As I told my brother in Annapolis last week... At least you northerners have the winter to perform maintenance on your boats. Us poor bastards south of the frost line have to take a perfectly good weekend off from sailing to fix our boats.

Well Rich..............

Winter has come once again to Mississippi! I went to a party last night and the dress was shorts an short sleeves for most there. A front blew through around midnight as everyone was leaving and today it was 49f at noon. But hey I went sailing today for a few hours anyway. Clear skies and North winds around 6 to 10. Frank
