Dodgy Earth

I seem to have an earthing problem on a 1976 Vega Mk III.
Batteries are mounted in the keel both have a common earth which then goes into a conduit which goes under the floor and then the engine bay floor pan.
There is definitely no problem with the battery terminal connections.
Does anyone know where the earth comes out?

Also am about to replace the through deck plugs for the vhf and mast electrics with a through deck gland. Is there likely to be any interference problems with putting both co ax and 12 dc wiring through the same rubber gland.?

And Finally if any one has a photo of the standard Vega bow roller ( Offset) actually in situ I would very much appreciate a copy-I know how I think it fits but it's always better to be sure before I start drilling holes.

David,
On our Vega, the ground came out under the engine pan and attached to the back end of the combi gearbox. So, she was grounded to the engine. I replaced all of the wiring this year, so she'll be grounded there again, as soon as the rest of the cables come in.

The only thing I can comment on is the DC wires and coax.
It is possible to contaminate your coax signals from the DC. Not highly probable though. It depends on what type of noise (if any) may be traveling on the DC wiring.

I would go ahead and put the coax through the path that you mention. Sounds like the path is difficult to get to. If you experience noise problems, then just reroute to test if your chosen path is really the problem. If it is, just permanently reroute the coax.

The ground cable (earth) is most likeley attached to the engine at the bottom of the water pump mounting plate. This is on the rear starboard side of the engine, and is easy to see and access if you remove the cockpit sole cover.

Narrowed the problem down to an earh fault late on Sunday just as it was getting too dark to see what we were doing-at least now I know the cockpit sole has to come up.
