I had a Catalina 25...
...with a pop-top. We had a dodger built and installed by a local canvas guy. There was also a canvas enclosure for the pop top. When the pop-top was raised we had to unzip the front "glass" to allow the top to rise. But this was expected and didn't cause us any problem. A dodger is necessary (IMHO) and really gives you another protected space when sailing or sitting at anchor. And shade. It certainly made the boat more comfortable in any conditions (especially rain). But when it splashes, sprays or rains, the first thing that you say is "Boy, this was worth it!".When we bought our Hunter, the thing at the top of a priority list was a dodger.
