I have an original Vega frame with a one year old Pacific Blue
Sunbrella cover dodger (spray hood) for sale. It's not the kind of
thing to ship across the planet, but I'm going to the Pacific NW
Rendezvous on the 18th, if anyone is interested. I also have the
original hinge plates that attach to the cabin sides for the frame.

what are the dimensions for the frame? i have a recently purchased
Vega, here in NC, and need to fab one up, as the orignal is gone.
Hinge plates are still there though. Is the orignal design
adequate, or is some aftermarket hood, perhaps larger/higher better
if i am starting from scratch? Thanks.

If you're starting from scratch I'd recommend using at least 7/8"
stainless steel tubing and going the custom made route. The original
frames are quite thin, a vinyl-covered steel tube, and not too strong
to grab hold of when returning to the cockpit.

My personal preference is for the original style, as I like the look
and it gives adequate shelter. I duplicated the original frame, but
used 7/8" SS tubing and made new stronger hinge mounts. I also added
braces to the cockpit combing.
