Looking for some pictures of a H34 with a dodger attached. Anyone have some they could share. We're looking at getting one but would like to see how the lines run thru it.
Thanks, Bub

The only line that I have that comes under the dodger is for the traveler the rest come under the sea hood. Sorry no pictures.

I don't have an H34 but I do have a well designed dodger on my Hunter 27. I think you would find some good information from this web site-- http://www.iversonsdesign.com
Iverson has established a new level in dodgers that the rest of the industry is going to have to compete. He has won industrial awards with his dodgers.

My suggestion to you is to look at his web site, especially the examples of dodgers on many different boats and decide on some parameters that you would like. A good dodger is hard to beat. I wish you well.

My pictures don't show line placement, but the traveler is the only sheet as previously mentioned. What I have experienced is the slit allowance for the traveler is inadequate to permit raising the sheet for removing it from the camcleat for making adjustments. I usually release the snaps around the slits to give more freedom of movement. The option would be to move the camcleats further aft from the traveler and under cover of the dodger. I have not seen that configuration.

Bub...

The dodger I have on my boat has window zippers that line up with the traveler car end blocks. I pass the lines through them at the bottom and unzip them when I need to make use of the traveler.

I've seen a number of H34's with a very ridgid dodger frame that features an exterior horizontal hand-hold bar on each side. I would try to find one like that as it affords another measure of safety when going forward under way. I've attached a pix of the dodger on Bob Poff's "Loon" that shows this feature.

Thanks Mark and Dan, I was wondering about how the lines would enter thru the dodger that wasn't enclosed under the sea hood.

You can't see it in Dan's picture because the piling is in the way.....
and I can't find any of my own that shows it...

But the traveler comes through grommets in the canvas.
Everything else comes under the sea hood like in Claudes pictures.

And like Claudes the center section unzips and can be rolled up.
We also have a bridge that can be zipped up between the dodger and the bimini.

The zippers I have in my dodger window are full heigth that allow the center window panel to be rolled up, a blessing on a hot July/August low wind day!

Like Bob, I have a removeable connector panel between my dodger and bimini. I leave in installed on the dodger all the time, and bungee it down at the aft end when off the boat to prevent the water ponding on the companionway slider, which will ultimately drip inside if the "gutter" on the starboard side of the slider isn't clear of any debris.

Dan, because of skin condition I leave the bimini on all time. I too have a connector that I can install between the dodger and the bimini. As you can see on the picture, i have had my bimini made higher than the dodger, but it is just below the boom. So in fact i have 2 connectors: a blue sunbrella one for shade when the sun is beating down (although the picture was taken under sail in the Bahamas, it gets used more when anchored or docked), and a clear plastic one which is great when raining as I can see through it and still sail (picture in the rain and fog shows a corner of it). Even when the main is hardened the end of the boom still clears it.

I REALLY like that clear panel! What a great idea! Could have used it more than once on the Bay in summer storms.

Here's a pix I have of my bimini/dodger open is from the port quarter with the connector panel in place. On it you can see that my bimini is tall enough for a six footer (a previous owner no doubt). It's forward end just clears the boom end.

The dodger could be taller as I do bump my head on occasion coming up the companionway in a hurry. New window material last year made visibility in the rain much better, even with a solid connector panel.

Dan, my dodger is kind of low as well but the bimini will allow a 6' person to stand without bumping head except when traveling with mast down, mast over dodger and under bimini allowing rain protection. Here is a better view of the clear plastic connector. Picture taken morning after a severe storm with 30 knots steady winds gusting to 40 passed through the Thousand Islands area, hence the multiple spring lines because of shallow rocky area.

While I don't have any pictures handy, I redirected my furler to come in under the dodger on the starboard side along the cabin roof where I anchor it with a camcleat. For the traveler I got rid of the cam cleats on the traveler, then gently bent the mounting plates down a little and brought the lines through the dodger with eyelets that I had my canvas seamstress install. I fastened new cam cleats just aft of the cabin winches and to the outside in line with the end blocks of the traveler. I have been using this for the last 3 years. It works great and allows furling and traveler adjustment with a minimum of fuss and I don't get wet, which important to us in the PNW. I also had a clear panel installed with zippers between the Dodger and Bimini. This little feature is one of the best ideas ever. There is also a window in the top of the Bimini so I can see the wind vane, though I suppose this goes without saying. What ever Dodger you go with, spend money on the windows, get the highest quality you can afford. My windows suck

Heart...

I had mine replaced by an auto upholstry shop--they're of a heavier gage of plastic and seem be holding up well. I'm using headlight lens cleaner wax to spruce them up to keep them clear after each season.

Bub,

I am pretty sure my Hunter 34 is totaled as a result of Sandy, and I am not sure what I am going to do with the hull but let me know if you are interested in a dodger frame and an older dodger that you might be able to use a pattern, as I am pretty sure I will not be needing it anymore. I have to get the insurance finalized and see what they say to do but I ask them and will keep you updated.

Yes I would be interested in the dodger frame and older material. Let me know when you find out anything,

Thanks,
Bub
