$2100 for H31.

We paid $2100 for our dodger on our Hunter 31 several years ago. For this price, we got a S.S. frame. All zip out windows with covers (no roll up) and a second set of windows with sunscreen. We also got hand holds on the sides of the frame. They also make a fly that connects the trailing edge of the dodger to the split backstay for a little more shade. You may not want this for shade, but it is wonderful in the winter to keep the rain out if you want to keep the companionway open.

Steve - Who Made Your Dodger?

Was it someone in the Bay Area? I need a dodger for my 1985 H31 and I'd love to hear more details about yours. Who did it? How is the quality compared to others you may have seen? Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

JT: While I would like to recommend them, they happened to be out of business. If you are interested in a look-see some time, you can cruise over sometime for a warm afternoon and a cold beer in the delta to take a look. I can also send you some pictures, but is much better to see in person. I had some criteria that I wanted followed when I had it made. One thing is that I wanted to be to stand on the engine step and have the dodger clear my head. I wanted all removalable panels (gets warm in the summer). Also wanted the top panel to zip out. Other than being a little tall, it turned out just about perfect. The workmanship was excellent.

check the link below an outfit called ISLAND NAUTICAL make dodgers for every production boat. they have patterns already in their computer. delivery is 3 weeks in any sunbrella color available. web site offers a 10% discount. I did even better at a boat show. they used to sell them on this web site. mine is still on the boat after ten years but needed to be restitched a few years ago

My two cents worth....

I ordered my dodger from Island Nautical in NY about three years ago for approximately $1400.00 with SS tubing. The complaints are that making dodgers from a set of 'templates' does not give you the oppertunity to fit the dodger to the specific boat. The result was a product that came with the wrong mounting locations for hardware and a extremely sloppy fit. For the couple hundred bucks I 'saved', I would gladly have paid extra to get something that fit better.

After wanting a dodger for a number of years, going to sailboat shows, for my money-follow the following road. Ask the sailboat owners in your marina who does a good job on canvas. Go to the shop, look around at the work and talk to the owner. If more than one shop looks good, have them quote the job. Only go with a shop that will come out to your boat to measure and talk to you to determin what you want and how high you want it. canvas shop will install on you boat. I would recommend the vinyl backed Sunbrella over 1" stainless steel tubing. I think you will find you will "beat" the prices listed below by a considerable price. You also will not have to do the installation. If you want to save a couple of more dollars- go online to eBay and bid on the Sunbrella you want. Good Luck Ian s/v Meant to Be 30' Hunter
