Looking for experiences with dodgers and covers. We are thinking of adding one to our refurbished 34. Advice?

Don't like them.

My favorite way to sail is with the dodger folded down and the bimini folded up. Maybe I am claustrophobic but canvas enclosures ruin the sailing for me. And if you are used to watching the windex you will need a big window in the bimini(there goes the shade). On the other hand there have been times that I was awfully glad the dodger was there. And the bimini is up all summer. Fifteen years ago we thought the sun was good for us! Now we know we have to stay covered. So I have yarn on the shrouds and a wind instrument on the helm. Whether you need a dodger or not depends on your sailing. All bay with offshore breezes then probably not. Gonna' cross Lake Michigan now and again then absolutely. Too many biminis that I see are too small. I made mine from a Sailrite kit with a large frame. I mounted the feet way outside on the toerail(H37C). The back frame is a good 18" behind the backstay. I slope the forward half so that it can go well forward under the boom.

Sailing in New England ....

I found the dodger extended by sailing season a month. Island Nautical in NY has the pattern in the computer and could get you one in 3 weeks by UPS. They have the best price available, choise of any Sunbrella color and my installation took only 45 minutes
