Dock water attachment

My Hunter 44DS has a water attachment on the stern to connect a hose to a tap at the marina. Is there anything you have to do before you connect the hose and turn it on? Do you have to turn any thing on the water system?

others with more knowledge of the hunter design will surly know more about the particular boat than I do, but still, here is my opinion...

there may be no manual valves in the system.... you never know how it was designed or modified....
a well installed system would have an automatic check valve and a manual valve, but I have seen installs where there is only a manual valve in the city water intake line, others with only an automatic check valve, and still others where there is no valve at all, and the only way for the onboard pressure system to function is to cap the city water connection so the onboard pressure does not push water back out the city water connection.

if you have never used the "city water" system before it would be a good idea to turn on the faucet in the galley sink before turning on the spigot on the dock....
this will give the water an easy place to escape to while you are getting aboard, just in case there is a broken line somewhere... after you board the boat you can shut the water off at the sink and then check for leaks.

as for the need for a manual valve in the city water system... if it is installed, it needs to be at the intake.... a shut off on the boat is convenient, BUT it does not NEED one as you do have the dock spigot less than 50ft away to shut the water off.
when you leave the boat unattended, the "city water" should always be shut off... otherwise, in the event of a line bursting inside the boat, the city water pressure will secretly run unchecked into the boat until the hull fills and sinks....

The shore water attachment is a pressure reducing valve. The only caution here is to ensure the shore water is off when leaving the boat. Parts sometimes fail.

You should verify the presence of a check valve on the pump side to ensure you can't pressurize the onboard tanks.
Some folks dislike shore water connections as dangerous but so too can home water pressure cause far greater monetary damage so it's all about the convenience (of both).

I have only had the yacht for 18 months and always felt that I would like to keep turning over the water in the tanks so that they don't get stale, so I haven't ever connected up to the dock connection. I don't mind sitting on the boat holding a hose for awhile every now and then to fill the water tanks up. I probably won't connect up the hose but I just like to know how things work, thanks.

I have this on my 340 but when I leave the boat even to go for a walk I disconnect it from the
Boat.
Leaving the hose connected allows your neighbor to inadvertently turn your town 40+ pound pressure on.
I also use an in line pressure reducing valve so as not to blow out every connection on the boat.
The shore water connection is a great convenience but needs to be respected for the possible damage it could cause.

In the manual it shows a valve under the sink where the distribution header is located. It will have to be opened. I have not verified this visually but was wondering the same thing about my 2007 44DS, so looked in the manual. Let me know if it works.

Hunter Installed Dockside Water Fitting

Dreamboat came with one. I have used it from time to time over the last 12 years with no problems. Two months in Marathon, Fla. a few winters ago for example. Allows you to top off the tanks sometime before departure and still have them full when you leave. What I do to address the concerns above is to add a standard garden hose shutoff fitting between the hose and the inlet. Then it is an easy flick of the shutoff valve when leaving or arriving at the boat. I also use one of those cylindrical water filters made for gardenhose fittings to filter the dock water.
