I now have a new dock for my sailboat and it's a private house with a concrete dock and when walking on the lawn to my boat and we pickup dirt and grass onto the boat.
I do have a door mat but it doesn't keep the dirt from going on the boat,I am thinking of going to Home Depot for a 5x12 piece of that fake green grass and use it at the dock.
So any advice would be good and what you use or what you did not like or something really bad idea,it's not my dock so it needs to be nice looking and low $$$$$.

Golf courses have shoe cleaning brushes to clean your shoes before you go in the clubhouse. The clean the bottoms and sides of your shoes hands free. A search will find out where to get one. Would be perfect for your problem.

Yup, boat shoes stay on the boat. However, if you really do want to go with the carpet, you can get it in other colors. We slipped our boat at a marina with wood docks that were old and really dried out so splinters were a major problem. Home depot sells indoor/outdoor carpet off the roll to your desired length. The problem we found with this was that ducks and seagulls loved to hang out on the carpet and crapped all over it so we needed to keep a powerwasher close by to keep it clean.

Put the cleaning stuff close to the land so you don't track the stuff onto the dock. The furthest from the boat is best. Hose down the dock, too, if you can.
